OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY: 

Perform journeyman level carpentry and maintenance work in the maintenance and repair of Medical Center facilities. 

 

WORK PERFORMED: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned and a more comprehensive task list may be provided. 

Perform journeyman level carpentry work in the maintenance and repair of Medical Center buildings, additions, and fixtures to include floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens; repair or make adjustments to items or fixtures as needed, to include doors and door closures, stair treads, flooring, furniture, shelving and cabinets. 

Use appropriate carpentry and woodworking tools to complete assignments; use all appropriate safety precautions and protective equipment when using such tools and when carrying out assignments; ensure a safe work environment; ensure compliance with Medical Center and OSHA safety regulations. 

Plan work ensuring adequate materials and labor to complete repairs in timely and efficient manner; report unusual issues to supervisor. 

Monitor and inspect work to ensure compliance the applicable codes and procedures; complete or direct any rework or modifications. 

Complete required documentation to include, but not limited to, work order forms, inventory/order forms, and corrective/preventive maintenance documents; use computer software as applicable to maintenance and repair activities plus various employee training, payroll and compliance requirements. 

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

EDUCATION/TRAINING 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

EXPERIENCE 

Work requires 3 to 5 years of broad experience in construction or maintenance carpentry to acquire knowledge of the methods and techniques of the carpentry trade. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

Valid N.C. Driver's license and a driving history acceptable under the guidelines of the Safe Driving Policy. 

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate in one-on-one or small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must respect the privacy of patients and maintain the confidentiality of any patient information related to their treatment. Ability to complete daily records, logs, and time sheets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb ladders or stairs. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds or more.

Minimum Qualifications

 

 

Education

Work requires an educational background normally equivalent to a high school education with shop work courses.

 

Experience

 

Work requires 2 years of broad experience in carpentry to acquire OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE knowledge of the methods and techniques of the carpentry trade.
