General Description of the Job Class
The Business Transformation Associate (Project Manager) works closely with the Vice President of Business Transformation and engages with leaders across Duke Health in support of transformative projects that improve performance as measured by key health system metrics. This position is responsible for managing all phases of project planning and execution to ensure all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope and requirements, funding and cost tracking, customer communications plan, deployment reporting, process and system implementation, quality, safety, integration and validation. The Project Manager will provide regular updates on project status, key milestones and support the identification of project risks and development of mitigation strategies. Business Transformation associates will typically work on one or two projects of 3–6-month duration, at any time.
Duties and Responsibilities of this Level
Project Support -
- Establishes and maintains communications among all project/program stakeholders - facilitating communication and serving as a liaison among operators, finance, IT, HR, and other supporting functions that contribute to project success.
- Leads projects from initiation to implementation and benefit sustainment, ensuring timely execution, alignment with organizational goals, and long-term benefit capture.
- Directs detailed data analysis to identify trends, issues, and opportunities; leverages data to provide actionable recommendations to optimize workflows and resource utilization.
- Envisions, introduces and champions new improvement initiatives based on data analysis and understanding of organizational priorities.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive reporting systems to track project progress, performance metrics, measure key outcomes for stakeholders, and support decision-making.
- Assures that Project Plan, all appropriate reports and reporting means are developed and managed according to established organizational governance.
- Crisply communicates status, risks, barriers, and necessary support to direct stakeholders and senior leaders.
Operational Support –
- Support Senior Operational leadership with focused analyses or improvement efforts and management of administrative projects and efforts.
- Support of Hospital leadership with project management and analytical support of operational initiatives.
- Co-creating design approaches, design plans, design deliverables, implementation work plans and other artifacts that support project delivery from concept through operational handoff.
- Include clinical decision support and ongoing performance improvement support.
- Identify barriers to progress and help to develop appropriate countermeasures.
Decision Support and Performance Reporting:
- Development and initiation of clinical analyses in support of the CSU leadership to improve the management and quality of care.
- Coordinate the improvement process as appropriate.
- Ongoing decision support in support of clinical and patient safety improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education
Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Industrial/Systems Engineering and/or related healthcare-related fields strongly preferred. Master's in Health Administration, Business Administration or another related discipline desirable.
Experience
4 years of management consulting, business analysis, project management, and/or a healthcare-related field. Experience can be supplemented with Master's degree with that equivalent to two years of experience.
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification
Formal project management training (e.g. PMP) desirable
Formal improvement (e.g. lean, Six Sigma) desirable
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of data analytics and experience with data analysis / presentation tools (Tableau, PowerBI, etc) a plus. The role is not an analytics role, but it will rely on data to aid design decisions and ensure that benefits are achieved and sustained.
