Duke Children’s Partial Hospitalization Program Registered Nurse
Location: 2608 Erwin Road Suite 300, Durham, NC 27705
Work Schedule:
Full time, 1.0 FTE. No Holidays, No weekends, No on-call. Monday-Friday 0730-1600
The Duke Children’s Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) will be a program for children and adolescents with behavioral health conditions that will provide treatment for the equivalent of a school day. Pediatric patients will attend the brief program each weekday for 2-4 weeks and engage in individual, group, and family therapies during the day.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:
- Experience working with children and adolescents with mental health diagnoses such as ADHD, ODD, IDD, ASD, MDD, etc.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, software navigation abilities
- Good organizational skills
- Flexible attitude with the ability to function both independently and as a team member
- A willingness to collaborate with the new team in program development, policy creation, and operational planning
Job Duties:
- Milieu management, including:
- Assist in organizing and conducting recreational or social activities within the group setting
- Work with patients individually and in groups to support instruction and carry out treatment plans
- Ensure a safe environment by continuous patient monitoring and promptly reporting any changes to the registered nurse (RN)
- Assist with movement of patients throughout PHP setting. Including, but not limited to: transporting to bathroom, therapy sessions, provider visits, etc.
- Facilitate meal and snack breaks within the milieu
- Use therapeutic de-escalation techniques to maintain milieu safety
- Assist with restraint and seclusion when needed
- Provide 1:1 patient observation in comfort/alternative room when needed
- Team collaboration, including:
- Participate in staff discussions to assess, coordinate and execute patient care
- Collaborate with team on programming for the milieu
- Assist with orientation of new staff
- Participate in ongoing education and training
