Occupational Summary 

We are an accredited human tissue biorepository housed in the Department of Pathology, directed by a Duke School of Medicine Faculty Member. The biorepository is funded to support biomedical research at Duke University and on behalf of the National Cancer Institute. The individual hired will be responsible for collaborating with members of the biorepository to gather data to support the collections and distribution of biospecimens in the repository. Serve as a Business Systems Analyst supporting service development and implementation in the BioRepository & Precision Pathology Center. 

 

Work Performed 

1. BRPC OPERATIONS-REPORTING: Under the oversight of the Research Program Leader, collaborate with Clinical Research, CHTN/Collections and Research Histology Team Leads to produce operational metric reports monthly. Create and analyze reports on all BRPC operational activities to show trends and progress including, but not limited to inventory audit reporting. Ensure all systems used in BRPC are structured to support the highest level of reporting and strategic planning needs while meeting the daily reporting needs of the BRPC. Design and deploy templates in systems as needed to create reports and queries on data. Ensure required interfaces with other systems and internal and external organizations are developed and maintained. 

 

2. BRPC DATA INTEGRITY: Ensure data integrity to maintain consistency and accuracy of all data collected from and passed to various sources. Coordinate with DHTS/OASIS to organize and manage the computer systems/data storage needs for BRPC. Work with the Research Program Leader and Clinical Research Team Lead to ensure compliance with Duke IRB, Department of Pathology, Duke Office of Clinical Research, and NCI regulations. 

 

3. BRPC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE: Assist the BRPC Director and the Research Program Leader by providing data used in creating the annual BRPC budget. Understand the different funding sources of the BRPC Shared Resource. Understand Duke Shared Resource General Accounting Principles and Rules. Coordinate and oversee implementation and management of any new shared resource financial management software in conjunction with the billing, procurement and physical plant lead LRA. This will include developing new SOPs as needed. Receive monthly financial statements from the Pathology Business Office and reconcile expenses. Provide financial reports as requested to the BRPC Research Program Leader and BRPC Director. 

 

4. SERVE AS THE “IT ANALYST OF THE SOUTHERN DIVISION OF THE COOPERATIVE HUMAN TISSUE NETWORK (CHTN)”: The CHTN UM1 Grant from the National Cancer Institute is a major source of funding for the BRPC. Assist the CHTN Coordinator/Collections Team Lead in development and oversight of the infrastructure required for serving as the Southern Division of CHTN. This includes Jasper Reports, InvestigatorPlus, TissueQuest software data management. Attend meetings for CHTN IT Analysts and perform requested functions. Assist the BRPC Director and BRPC Research Program Leader with financial and performance oversight of CHTN Operations using data. 

 

5. BRPC LARGE PROJECTS: Assist the BRPC Research Program Leader, Clinical Research Team Lead, CHTN/Collections Team Lead in coordination and implementation of large BRPC projects/grants such as the NCI’s Clinical Proteomics Tissue Analysis Consortium (CPTAC) grant, adhering to all Duke and federal policies. 

 

6. BRPC BIOBANKING INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM TRANSITION: Under the direction of the BRPC Research Program Leader and Director, serve on the School of Medicine Biobanking Committee and, when needed, perform the work of implementing within BRPC the new Biobanking Information Management System. This will include working with the CHTN Coordinator/Collections Team Lead and Clinical Research Team Lead to recapitulate workflows in the new system, develop new SOPs as needed, and clean and migrate BRPC data from LabVantage to the new system. 

 

Required Qualifications at this Level 

Education/Training: Work requires a Bachelor's degree.

Experience: 3 years combined business/work analyst, software QA, or user support/training experience, OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Skills: 

 

Looking for a candidate that is able to query multiple databases and compile medical and financial data used to report metrics and fulfill scientific projects. 

Strong familiarity with Excel is a must. Familiarity with pulling data from SQL & medical data is preferred.
