Job Title: BIOINFORMATICIAN I/Evaluation Lead (CTSI)
Occupational Summary
The Duke Health AI Evaluation and Governance (E&G) program focuses on ensuring the safe, effective, and ethical use of AI in clinical decision-making at Duke and beyond. Duke Health AI E&G initiatives and projects enable the responsible and trustworthy selection, development, deployment, and use of AI, while raising awareness within the community. Our team includes diverse experts—researchers, physicians, data scientists, and ethicists—from Duke and partner institutions. Together, we develop robust evaluation methods and frameworks tailored for health AI algorithms and their governance.
Algorithm-Based Clinical Decision Support (ABCDS) Oversight is a flagship program of E&G. We manage a registry of all algorithmic technologies used in patient care and clinical operations and perform risk-based evaluations to foster safe, equitable, innovative, and high-quality patient care. Our “people-process-technology” framework introduces evaluation checkpoints throughout the development lifecycle and after deployment to ensure that transparency, quality, and ownership are maintained for all algorithmic solutions. ABCDS Oversight is a collaborative effort between the Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke University Health System (DUHS) and is a key quality initiative.
We are seeking an Evaluation Lead to serve as the primary liaison to teams of researchers, clinicians, and scientists undergoing ABCDS Oversight governance activities. The Evaluation Lead facilitates processes for registration, risk assessment, and evaluation by providing training and education, synthesizing feedback, communicating outcomes, and surfacing questions to our leadership team as needed. The Evaluation Lead is an integral part of ABCDS Oversight’s operations team and responsible for implementing ABCDS Oversight’s mission. This role will serve as an evaluation and quality subject-matter expert for E&G strategic initiatives, as well as support the evolution and extension of the ABCDS Oversight framework.
