Work Perform ed

Prepare patients,equipment andsupplies for specific procedures andprovide manual assistance as required.Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and informingRN/LPN of information collected .Administer treatment andpersonal care proceduresto patients including,b ut not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting withambulation, enemas,s kin care, and bowel and bladder elimination;provide such additional care as required to meetthe personal needs andcomfort of assigned patients.P articipate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed byR N and/or physician asneeded.Assist physician and nurses with physical ex aminations by helpingposition patients, changing non-sterile dressing an d weighing patients.Take and recordvital signs, record I&O, apply iceba gs, administerdouches and enemas. Note and reportany changes in patient' s condition.Turnandposition patients,set up and feed patients as necess ary,provide patients with fresh drinking water.Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing, with appropriatetraining.Assist with admission,di scharge, and transportation of patients.Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment asrequired.Collect, deliver and conduc t routine tests on patient specimens.Clean assigned area; stock and repl enish suppliesandequipment asrequired.Participate in own professionaldev elopment bymaintaining requiredskills validation and attending education al offerings. Support thedevelopment of other staff and formal learners. May also perform sterile dressing change for wounds over 48 hours old,IV fluid assistance activities, oral/nasogastric feedingand urinarycather izations/irrigation.Perform other related duties incidental to workdescr ibed herein.

Education

Graduation from high school or GED.


Experience

1 year of experience worki ng with patients with substance abuse, mentalhealth, dementia diagnosis, intellectually or disabled preferred.

Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North CarolinaorCe rtification as a Substance Abuse Counselor in North CarolinaorCertificat ion as an Emergency Medical Technician in North CarolinaorCertification as a Behavioral Health Technician by The Academy ofAddiction Professiona ls or American Medical Certification AssociationorIf a hire does not mee t 1 of the 4 requirements,the BHT must start theprocess to complete one of the requirements within 1 year of employmentand complete within 2 ye ars.BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hi reorientation, which typically takes place during the first week ofemplo yment.CPI certification strongly preferred.Meet DUHS credential to perfo rm analysis of blood glucose from fingersticks and report findings to nu rse. Complete quality control measuresfor this equipment. Participate in specimen collection according to testrequested. Is responsible for pati ent identification, specimen labeling,and collection verification. Instr uct patients in collection andpreservation of urine, sputum and stool sa mples for analysis. Obtain andrecord vital signs, intake and output amou nts or other measures asdelegated within 90 days of employment.
