Work Performed

Prepare patients,equipment and supplies for specific p rocedures andprovide manual assistance as required.Obtain and record pat ientdata for medical records noting and informingRN/LPN of information c ollected.Administer treatment andpersonal care procedures to patients in cluding,but not limited to, feeding, bathing, shaving, changing clothing ,cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting withambulation ,enemas, skin care, and boweland bladder elimination;provide such additi onal care as required to meetthe personal needs andcomfort of assigned p atients.Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instr ucted byRN and/or physician as needed.Assist physician and nurses withp hysical examinations by helpingposition patients, changing non-sterile d ressing and weighing patients.Take and record vital signs, record I&O, a pply ice bags, administerdouches and enemas. Note and report any changes inpatient's condition.Turnand position patients, set up and feed patient sas necessary,provide patients with fresh drinking water.Perform fingers ticks for blood glucose testing, with appropriatetraining.Assist with ad mission, discharge, and transportation of patients.Follow standard preca utions and use personal protective equipment asrequired.Collect, deliver and conduct routine testson patient specimens.Clean assigned area; stock and replenish suppliesand equipment asrequired.Participate in own profes sional development bymaintainingrequiredskills validation and attending educational offerings.Support thedevelopment of other staff and formall earners.May also perform sterile dressing change for wounds over 48 hour s old,IV fluid assistance activities, oral/nasogastric feeding and urina rycatherizations/irrigation.Perform other related duties incidental towo rk described herein.sterile techniques and special procedures that areap plicable to workperf

Education

Graduation from high school or GED.


Experience

1 year of experience worki ng with patients with substance abuse, mentalhealth, dementia diagnosis, intellectually or disabled preferred.

Listing on the Nurse Aid Registry of North CarolinaorCe rtification as a Substance Abuse Counselor in North CarolinaorCertificat ion as an Emergency Medical Technician in North CarolinaorCertification as a Behavioral Health Technician by The Academy ofAddiction Professiona ls or American Medical Certification AssociationorIf a hire does not mee t 1 of the 4 requirements, the BHT must start theprocess to complete one of the requirements within 1 year of employmentand complete within 2 ye ars.BCLS certification must be maintained/completed by the end of new hi reorientation, which typically takes place during the first week ofemplo yment.CPI certification strongly preferred.Meet DUHS credential to perfo rm analysis of blood glucose from fingersticks and report findings to nu rse. Complete quality control measuresfor this equipment. Participate in specimen collection according to testrequested. Is responsible for pati ent identification, specimen labeling,and collection verification. Instr uct patients in collection andpreservation of urine, sputum and stool sa mples for analysis. Obtain andrecord vital signs, intake and output amou nts or other measures asdelegated within 90 days of employment.
