Title: Athletic Training Fellow

 

Position Summary:

 

Duke University Athletic Medicine Department is seeking motivated and passionate applicants for Certified Athletic Training Fellow positions (4) for the 2025-2026 academic year. Coverage is primarily with Olympic sports with opportunities for other sport coverage at special events and according to candidate interest. Primary sport coverage will be determined throughout the interview process.

 

This is a one-year educational and professional development opportunity designed to advance applicant’s skills in sports medicine. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in providing comprehensive care to student athletes while participating in an educational curriculum aimed at fostering clinical and leadership expertise. Please note this is not a Graduate Assistantship and there is no tuition waiver associated with this Fellowship.

 

This Fellowship includes hourly pay (no benefits), state licensure fees, NATA membership fees, liability insurance as well as the opportunity to peruse outside continuing education courses. Start date of this Fellowship can be flexible throughout July 2025.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education, Credentials, Certifications

· Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and/or Master’s degree are required

· National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) is required by start date

· Candidate must be able to fulfill requirements to apply for State Licensure with the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners by start date

· Current CPR/AED/First Aid Certifications

· Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with a commitment to learning and professional growth

 

Experience

· Familiarity with NCAA governing rules

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include assisting and collaborating with the Athletic Medicine Staff and Duke Team Physicians to deliver medical care to the Duke University Student Athletes. Athletic Training fellows may also assist in the supervision of Athletic Training Students and/or student workers as well as other administrative tasks as delegated by Athletic Medicine Staff.

 

Fellowship follows a guided educational curriculum designed to provide advanced clinical training, professional development, and specialized learning experiences. Core education components will include weekly seminars within the Duke Health system, didactic learning, case studies, journal clubs, observation of team physicians/allied health care professionals, and surgical observation.

Anticipated Pay Range

 

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 18.00 to USD $22.39.
