Title: Athletic Training Fellow

Position Summary

Duke University Athletic Medicine Department is seeking qualified applicants for two (2) Certified Athletic Training Fellow positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. The sport assignment is football. This opportunity is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience in a collegiate football environment, preparing fellows to qualify for full-time positions within collegiate football programs upon completion.

Positions are for Certified Athletic Trainers looking to gain additional clinical experience working with an FBS Division 1 football program.

This 12-month Fellowship includes hourly pay (no benefits), state licensure fees, NATA membership fees, and liability insurance. There will also be opportunities working summer camps and other outside events throughout the year. Start dates are flexible, but ideally candidates will be able to begin in May 2026. Please note this is not a Graduate Assistantship, and there is no tuition waiver for graduate classes.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization or Master’s degree are requirements.

· Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).

· Fulfill requirements to apply for State Licensure with the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.

· Familiarity with NCAA governing rules.

Primary job responsibilities include assisting and collaborating with the Athletic Medicine staff and team physicians to deliver medical care to the Duke University football team. Fellows will also assist in the supervision of athletic training students and student workers, and have other administrative tasks as delegated by Athletic Medicine staff. There will be many educational opportunities including weekly seminars within the Duke Health system, regular staff meetings/continuing education, participation in injury prevention analytics & research, observation of team physicians/allied health care professionals, and surgical observation.

Applicants should be BOC certified or certification eligible by their start date, as well as maintaining current CPR/AED/First Aid Certifications. Applicants should also be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of North Carolina.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.00.
