The Department of Population Health is seeking an Associate in Research to join the research team of Charles Muiruri, PhD. The Duke Department of Population Health Sciences’ mission is to produce important insights, guide them into practice, and prepare the next population health scientists well to improve the health of communities everywhere.

 

Dr. Muiruri’s research seeks to improve the quality of healthcare and reduce disparities for persons with multiple chronic conditions both in and outside the United States. His current work focuses on prevention of nonAIDS comorbidities among people living with HIV. His current projects funded by NIAID, NHLBI and NIMHD focus on improving the quality of cardiovascular disease prevention and care among people living with HIV in the United States and Tanzania.

 

 

Minimum Requirements:

A Master’s degree is required.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in psychology, public health, or a related field.
  • Experience in research design, grant writing, and donor engagement.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Work Responsibilities:

 

  • Fundraising Leadership: Lead fundraising efforts (grants and philanthropy), including identifying and engaging potential donors and cultivating long-term relationships with funding sources.
  • Strategic Planning: develop and implement strategies that align research goals with fundraising objectives.
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage fundraising (grants and philanthropy), campaigns and related projects.
  • Research Support: Provide psychological expertise to design, implement, and disseminate research on health disparities. Contribute to the development of publications and presentations.
