Title: Assistant Director of Behavioral Health

 

Duke University Athletics is searching for a qualified Clinical Mental Health Provider. This position provides consulting and outreach services to Duke University student athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student athletes and team members.

The Assistant Director of Behavioral Health, as a licensed mental health provider, will provide access to quality sport psychology and mental healthcare by educating, diagnosing, discussing and treating mental, emotional and behavioral disorders, which may include, but are not limited to stress, anxiety, sleep disorders, substance abuse, sexual orientation, depression, hazing, and eating disorders.

 

Essential Duties and Functions:

1. Maintain clinical and sport-psychology caseload comprised of student-athletes for both individual and group service provision.

2. Provide clinical services for student-athletes including evaluation, treatment planning, progress monitoring, re-evaluation and possible referral.

3. Serve as point of contact for assigned teams and facilitate team workshops based on empirically supported sport psychology principles.

4. Assist with providing consultation and outreach services to coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning, nutrition and other administrative personnel regarding the psychological well-being of individual student-athletes and team members.

5. Engage in counseling-related activities including, but not limited to, maintaining counseling records, referrals, and managing various organizational aspects of counseling cases.

6. Assist with facilitating higher level of care services for emergency mental health presentations when appropriate to support campus and sport reintegration efforts.

7. Assist with coordination of service delivery for special cases to include substance use disordered eating, and severe-persistent mental illness education and treatment.

8. Consult with Duke athletic department personnel, parents, physicians and campus partners for holistic care initiatives in support of the student-athlete experience.

9. Assist with providing staff training and supervision, if applicable.

10. Assist with providing presentations for student-athletes, coaches, and Athletic Department staff members as requested by the director or aforementioned groups.

11. Assist with providing supervision to pre-doctoral intern, and individuals seeking certification as a mental performance coach as outlined by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, if applicable.

12. Coordinate and maintain good standing with licensure and accreditation organizations.

13. Understand and comply with state statutes governing the ethical provision of mental health care, as well as those rules governing the NCAA and ACC.

14. Attend and participate in interdisciplinary conferences.

15. Participate in continuing education and professional association activities related to performance of job functions and the maintenance of skills.

 

Minimum Education and Experience

1. Master's degree in counseling or related field from an institution of higher education

2. Licensed as a Professional Counselor in the state of North Carolina.

3. Experience in a student mental health agency or relevant healthcare or social service setting.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

1. Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited institution of higher education.

2. Completion of an APA accredited internship in clinical or counseling psychology.

3. Knowledge of psychological theories, assessment tools, treatment planning, and student development.

4. License to practice psychology or eligible to obtain a license to practice in the state of North Carolina within 6 months of hire.

5. Experience in providing psychological/counseling services to collegiate or other elite athletes.

 

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 60,328.00 to USD $100,000.00. Education
