The Assistant Dean for Accreditation & Evaluation works with the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs to lead the continuous quality improvement of the medical education program, including accreditation, course improvements, faculty development, and curricular mapping to ensure our continued growth as an outstanding innovator in medical education. The Assistant Dean will also provide leadership for assessment and evaluation processes in the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program.

 

ACCREDITATION 30%

 

Perform Project Management of our continuous quality improvement process mandated by the LCME and newly rigorous review process

 

o            Manage schedule of recurring review of all Standards and associated Elements

o            Elicit data and narratives from stakeholders to continuously update the Data Collection

o            Instrument for LCME Standard review

o            Write narrative responses in the DCI continuously

o            Communicate directly (oral and written) with stakeholders including SOM leaders, faculty, staff and students

o            Develop and implement processes, with outcomes tracking, for identified areas of risk and deficiency

o            Prepare presentations to CAG and Curriculum Committee for continuous Standard reviews

o            Maintain roster of review schedule and level of prioritization

o            Assist Assessment Team in preparing and conducting Annual Course Improvement Plans for all required courses, as part of LCME process

 

Coordinate LCME communications and review

 

o            Assist in LCME written communications as required for accreditation

o            Lead on writing DCI and finalizing report with ADCA for site visit and self-study

o            Lead on supporting the self-study process and mock visits

o            Lead on supporting students in completing the required Independent Student Analysis for LCME

•            Remain abreast of LCME accreditation review patterns, risks, and best practices

•            Perform mapping functions within LMS

•            Accurately map and track updated Program Objectives to all events and courses in LMS

o            Accurately map instructional strategies, evaluation strategies, EP As, and other keywords within our repository

o            Perform annual Curriculum Inventory report for the AAMC, which is used for LCME as well

o            Serve as an expert resource for team members in LMS maintenance to ensure consistency and quality of data reports generated

•            Attend all relevant Duke meetings as a representative of the program and position

 

EVALUATION and ASSESSMENT 40%

 

Oversee and direct the evaluation and assessment team in the planning and management of all aspects related to assessment and evaluation activities within the School of Medicine, including but not limited to:

 

o            Manage the assessment and evaluation processes for MD program.

o            Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

o            Establish work procedures to ensure operational effectiveness for assessment and evaluation activities

o            Manage the team in their administration of the logistical and technical on-site support to execute local and national exams consistently for 450+ students each academic year

o            Generate reports and analyses as requested, such as those required for course evaluations, local and national exam benchmarking

o            Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions

o            Assist with the coordination of institution-wide evaluation and survey data collection, and reporting, including updating and using the longitudinal database of learner performance

o            Design, administer and pursue adequate response rates for student and faculty surveys

o            Liaise with other programs, faculty members and representatives of related projects to coordinate collection and dissemination of data and to accomplish program objectives.

o            Collaborate with other HPE programs, the university, and administration in sharing best practices

o            Recommend changes and modifications to systems and processes to ensure timeliness, accuracy and efficiency of assessment and evaluation activities within MD program.

o            Liaise with external organizations (e.g. peer institutions, vendors of assessment- and evaluation-related products) as appropriate.

o            Maintain confidentiality of student data at all levels.

o            Attend all relevant Duke meetings as a representative of the program and position

 

SUPERVISION 20%

 

•            Provide direct supervision of the 1.0 staff FTE who support the Office of Evaluation and Assessment team

•            Oversee staff of 3.0 FTE who support the Office of Evaluation and Assessment

 

TEACHING 10%

 

•            Contribute to teaching and assessment in the MD program

•            Participate in educational initiatives to support the mission

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Anticipated PayRange

 

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $ 76,628.00 to USD $153,254.00. Education 

 

Master's degree in Business, Education or related field.

 

Experience

 

Five (5) years of experience in an administrative and supervisory capacity to manage staff and resources, including space, equipment, supplies, services, and budget needed to implementand maintain the School of Medicine curriculum.
