The Assistant Nurse Manager, RN (ANM) is a rol e developed to work incoordination with the nursing leadership in an ass igned unit, departmentor service to ensure the work is accomplished safe lyand effectively.The ANM serves as leadership support for staff, physic ians and otherrelated providers on service- specific clinical issues. Th eANM requiresdemonstration of leadership, clinical, and interpersonal sk ills. The ANMcollaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical operationsrelated to the designated service area. The ANM serves as the leadersupport for the unit/department/service when the manager is unavai lable.The ANM is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching andmen toring staff under the supervision of the nurse manager of operations(NM O).
Work Performed
Duties and responsibilities includ ethose required of the clinicalnurse, preceptor, and charge nurse role.I n conjunction with nursemanager, the assistant nurse manager will plan,c oordinate clinicalrequirements for staff and ensure all CBO and CBE requ irements for staffare current.Plan and assist with coordination of unit staff schedules and submit formanager approval.Coordinate clinical train ing requirements with staff regarding equipmentand supplies.Consult with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to providesupport and deter mine how orientation should proceed on an individualbasis.Assist NMO in preparation, oversight, maintenance and monitoring ofbudget utilizationC ollaborate with the manager for issue resolutions and projects toimprove work flow processes throughout the department utilizing aproactive appr oach.Collaborate with different departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab,re gistration) to resolve issues and improve work flow processesthroughout the department.Participate with the nurse manager in the interview proce ss andselection of new staff.Oversee various personnel actions including , but not limited to, hiring,performance appraisals, disciplinary action s, terminations and otherrelated activities.Mentor/coach staff to enhaw hires and orientees includingentry level nurses, nursing care assistannc e their professional development.Assess the performance of assigned nets and health unitcoordinators; provides ongoing feedback and coaching.Und erstand and communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issuesto appropriate support team members (Materials, Biomed, SterileProcessing, etc).Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new employees.Facilitate provision of clinical/education updates and skill check-offsto entiresta ff on a regular basis.Provide immediate support or education on policy, procedures, equipmentand supplies as needed.Responsible for learning,imp lementing and teaching newtechnology/procedures.Provide clinical consult ation and guidance as needed to facilitatepatient care.Round on patient and families to validate services are providedconsistently within expect ed standards; provide service recovery asneeded.Model and support the va lue ofdiversity in the workplaceGive assistance and/or direction tostaf f to facilitate quality patientflow.Supervise and coordinate delivery of patient care for assigned patientcare area.Provide oversight and suppor t to charge nurse to ensure staffingneeds/assignments are made according to workload, staff competency andscope of practice. Delegate responsibi lities within the scope ofpractice and validated competencies in order t o meet the workloaddemands of the shift.Facilitate participation ofunit based staff on department andorganization wide councils/committees.Facil itate assignments that support learning for the orientee or nurselearner .Promote an atmosphere of open communication that facilitates staff inpu tinto decision-making, resolution of conflict, and collegiality among al lhealth team members.Communicate in an effective, professional manner.Su pport activities needed to ensure adherence to regulatory standardsand c ompliance with clinical patient care standards and establishedpolicies a nd procedures.Review and provide appropriate follow up/communication on SRSs relatedto their team or patients in conjunction with NMO.Facilitate and encourage staff participation in departmental andhospital committee and council meetings.Attend departmental and hospital committee meeting s as assigned.Coordinate, facilitate, participate or direct departmental projects withfollow-through and appropriate follow-up.Other projects an d duties as directed by the department manager.

Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required.
Experience
Two or more ye ars of OR experience.
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications
Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina.B CLS certification is required.CNOR certification preferred.
