Reports To: System AVP of Perioperative Nursing and the Ambulatory Surgery Tetrad

Position Summary:
The Ambulatory Surgery Administrative Director (AD) is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial and administrative functions of the center. This role focuses on ensuring the financial stability and growth of the ASC by optimizing revenue, controlling expenses, and ensuring adherence to fiscal policies and regulatory requirements. The AD plays a pivotal role in strategic planning, budget management, and the overall financial health of the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Planning and Analysis
- Develop, manage, and monitor the ASC’s annual budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Perform detailed financial analysis, including profit and loss statements, cost control measures, and variance reporting.
- Forecast financial performance and analyze key trends, providing actionable insights to senior management.
2. Revenue Cycle Management
- Works with the institutional stakeholders to oversee the full revenue cycle, including billing, coding, collections, and payer contracts to ensure timely and accurate payment for services rendered.
- Ensure the center maintains compliance with payer contract terms and helps negotiates along with Duke corporate entities favorable rates with insurance companies and other payers.
- Identify and resolve billing discrepancies and issues to optimize cash flow.
3. Cost Management
- Implement effective cost control strategies, reviewing all major expenses and negotiating contracts with vendors to secure competitive rates.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure efficient use of resources and proper expense allocation.
- Monitor supply chain costs and ensure appropriate levels of inventory without excess spending.
4. Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws governing ASC financial operations, including Medicare and other payer regulations.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices related to ASC fiscal management.
5. Reporting and Communication
- Prepare regular financial reports for executive leadership, presenting clear and actionable insights regarding financial performance.
- Work closely with the clinical and administrative teams to ensure alignment between financial goals and operational needs.
- Act as a liaison between other Duke financial entities and external financial auditors and regulatory bodies, ensuring full transparency and compliance in financial reporting.
6. Strategic Planning
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives, identifying new business opportunities, revenue growth strategies, and cost-saving measures.
- Contribute to decisions related to service expansion, capital investments, and new payer partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, finance, business administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare financial management, preferably within an ASC or outpatient surgical setting.
- Strong knowledge of ASC billing, coding, and payer contract management.
- Proven experience in budget management, financial forecasting, and cost control.
- Familiarity with healthcare regulatory standards, including Medicare and other payer guidelines.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, or similar).
