As the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, you will play a critical leadership role in shaping a student-centered experience that supports access, belonging, academic excellence, and well-being—from recruitment through graduation.

    In this highly collaborative role, you will work alongside faculty, staff, and campus partners to ensure our students are supported holistically and positioned to thrive as future nursing leaders. Your expertise will help guide strategic enrollment efforts while advancing an inclusive, welcoming, and data-informed culture across DUSON.

    What You’ll Do

    Strategic Leadership

    • Develop and implement comprehensive enrollment and student affairs strategies that support recruitment, retention, progression, and student success.
    • Design and advance faculty and staff programming that promotes student wellness, professional development, and academic progression.
    • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean and senior leadership on enrollment trends, student experience, and policy matters.

    Enrollment Management

    • Provide oversight of recruitment, admissions, and enrollment operations across prelicensure, MSN, and DNP programs.
    • Partner with the Director of Financial Aid to support timely financial aid packaging and maximize enrollment yield.
    • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications, Assistant Deans, admissions chairs, and committees to align outreach and communications strategies.

    Student Support & Student Experience

    • Partner with leaders in the Student Success Center and Student Services Office to support advising, academic support, student life, career planning, and student conduct.
    • Support implementation of the Duke Honor Code, DUSON Academic Standards, and policies related to integrity, professionalism, civility, and conduct.
    • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment that promotes student well-being and personal and professional growth.

    Staff Leadership & Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop directors and professional staff across admissions, student success, student services, institutional research, and financial aid.
    • Build high-performing teams aligned with DUSON’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

    Financial Aid & Stewardship

    • Partner with the Director of Financial Aid to ensure compliance with federal, state, and philanthropic regulations.
    • Support the timely issuance of financial aid packages and collaborate on scholarship stewardship with Development and Alumni Affairs.

    Institutional Research & Data Strategy

    • Provide strategic oversight of the Office of Institutional Research in partnership with the Director of Institutional Research.
    • Guide priorities, resource allocation, and long-term planning to strengthen data quality, accessibility, and decision-support.
    • Support development and maintenance of Tableau reporting and assess stakeholder satisfaction with IR services.

    Fiscal, Data & Technology Management

    • Collaborate with unit leaders to prepare, manage, and monitor budgets across admissions, student success, student services, financial aid, and institutional research.
    • Contribute to grant preparation and external funding proposals.
    • Oversee effective use of student information systems (SIS) and CRM platforms to ensure data integrity and informed decision-making.
    • Provide strategic leadership to accelerate thoughtful integration of AI into workflows and processes.

    Policy, Compliance & Campus Collaboration

    • Ensure adherence to institutional policies and compliance with FERPA, ADA, state regulations, and accreditation standards.
    • Collaborate with campus partners including the University Registrar, Office of Institutional Equity, and Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).
    • Serve on DUSON and University committees and engage with student organizations and affinity groups to strengthen community.

    Required Qualifications

    • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in higher education, business, administration, or a related field preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in higher education; experience in nursing or health professions education preferred.
    • Direct experience in two or more functional areas aligned with this role (e.g., admissions, student affairs, enrollment management, financial aid, institutional research), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty, staff, and senior leaders.
    • Demonstrated discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Proficiency with common office technologies and emerging tools, including AI.
    • Experience with enrollment management systems and CRMs (e.g., Slate or similar platforms).

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education

A master's degree is generally required in higher education or a related field that will serve to enhance the stature and academic success of all university students.

 

Experience

At least six years of experience as a manager and administrator with responsibility for a wide range of process, project, policy, budgetary and supervisory responsibilities within an organization required. Demonstrated experience in recruitment, enrollment management, advising, counseling, program development, or a related field. Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting with an ability to serve as an effective advocate for student success. Working knowledge of mandated educational policies and practices as it pertains to maintaining the well being of the campus including FERPA, ADA, Title IX and the Cleary Act. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $82,936.00 to USD $165,875.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
