JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Exercise Specialist to support Exercise Stress Testing at Duke Cardiology of Cary Waverly, Duke Cardiology South Durham, and Duke Cardiology of Arringdon. This person would also provide coverage at the new Cardiology of Cary Place clinic. In additional to stress testing the person in this position also supports the Cardiac Monitor program enrolling patients and managing the devices.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in screening individuals' medical histories and current Health status to identify major health risk factors; administer stress testing procedures and counsel individuals regarding use of exercise equipment. Perform a wide variety of fitness assessments and/or 6-minute walk tests. Recognizes symptom changes & signs of problems; understands absolute and relative contraindications to stress testing. Knows appropriate medical response / processes. Initiates first responder care.
- Identify diagnostic stress lab needs; manages appropriate level of supplies and monitors equipment maintenance. Assess the stress-testing environment and make recommendations to ensure optimal patient comfort, safety and compliance with various regulatory bodies (OSHA, Joint commission, etc.).
- Placement and scanning of ambulatory cardiac and blood pressure monitors – event and holters – following established protocols.
- Identifies opportunities to enhance workflows in collaboration with clinic leadership. Assist in developing operating policies and procedures. Understands care management and interacts as patient advocate for appropriate referrals (non-physician) to other professionals or community services as indicated.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field required.
- No previous experience required.
- BLS certification; ACLS within a year of hire
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
