Marine Sciences and Conservation
Job Description
Our laboratory conducts research on marine microbes both in situ and using cultures in the laboratory to understand how these organisms process nutrients and energy, cycle materials in the ocean, and interact with one another.
Work Performed
- Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, and biological field sampling.
- Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents, and solutions.
- Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for the research lab.
- Operate various electronic devices in the collection, tabulation, and analysis of data.
- Set up instruments, materials, and apparatus, and operate standard laboratory equipment.
- Assist in the development of new research procedures and techniques.
- Conduct field studies, laboratory work, and environmental sampling, including work outside of standard (9 AM - 5 PM) hours as needed.
- Assist in the training of new personnel.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology, or other directly related scientific fields.
Experience
None required above education/training requirement. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Anticipated Pay Range:
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $18.69 to USD $28.28.
